Join Tim Klinkenberg, Senior Pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, and Chris Singer, Executive Pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church as they read, review, and answer questions about a new book each month. This blog is a space for men and women of faith to read together and blog their questions, comments, and reviews in order to grow in faith.
Nicole Johnson's book, Dramatic Encounters with God, touched my heart! It was a short, easy book (only 120 pages), but boy, was it packed with some good stuff! Nicole takes seven stories from the Bible about people who were dramatically changed when they encountered Jesus. She starts each chapter with the corresponding scripture passage, but then retells the story with current day characters and applicable situations.
ReplyDeleteI was drawn into the stories she wove. One was about a psychologist talking to a teen who cuts herself and the author related it to the story in Mark about a man at the tombs. I cried because you could feel the pain of both the current day teen, as well as the man from Jesus’ day.
The book also made me laugh & think about familiar stories, and how, at the core, they were lessons on love. There were a few simple thoughts to ponder at the end of each chapter which makes it a great book to do solo or in a group. If you would like to read it together with a few other women, you can join us this summer at the ‘til Tuesday Bible Study. We’re starting it July 7th on Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. Contact sandrahemphill00@yahoo.com for more information or log on to Women's Ministrires at www.stjohnsorange.org.

For those of you wanting to read this together as a group, we had our 1st meeting of 'til Tuesday last nite, but you can join us any time...grab the book & join us next week. The 1st week was about doubt & whether or not you have ever doubted God. We read that John the Baptist had a point where he doubted & what he did about it & how Jesus responded. I really enjoyed talking with the ladies about it. Hope you will also! Talk to you soon...
